Family in need for moving forward after loss

A family in our Savage community lost the father to pancreatic cancer during this past Fall. The father was a primary source of income for the family. There is a need for two children (twins) to get their drivers license to help with transport and for them to be able to get to and from work. The cost for drivers training is $630.00 for each student for a total of $1260.00. Additionally, one of the sons, age 14, thrives in sports. He has been struggling with the loss of his father and in need of positive participation. He is hoping to participate in three summer high school camps (strength training, football, and basketball). Total cost for the camps would be $150.00

Sudden death of mother leaves choice of funeral cost or rent

We have been working with a young man for the last 2.5 years, he started as a homeless drug addict but has been sober and advancing in his career since the second day he started with Allos. He has a good full time job and his a place to live. Late last week his mom stood up from the couch and fell over and was rushed to the hospital, where she unfortunately passed. They think it may have been a blood clot. The cost of cremation and the urn are already over $1,000. These traumatic situations can be triggering for people in recovery. We are trying to help him raise as much as possible so he can pay for all costs associated with his loss and not miss his rent payment and have to stress about finances during this difficult time.

Disabled senior needs van repair

A disabled senior living on only $883.00 a month from Supplemental Security Income, (SSI) ($802). and Minnesota Supplemental Assistance (MSA), ($81.) is needing a "tranny pump" for her 2011 Dodge Caravan. It has high mileage but has been dependable and it is easy for her to haul and load her oxygen tanks, walker and supplies in it. She inherited it from her deceased boyfriend and is all alone now. She has sentimental value in keeping the van and could not afford to purchase anything else if she doesn't fix it. She states that the engine is good, and it is easy for her to use it. She was diagnosed 5 years ago with Cronic, Obstructive, Pulmonary Disease, (COPD) and needs the oxygen and walker. She just turned 65 and is on Medicare and Medical Assistance. She is receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as Food Stamps, and was sent an Energy Assistance application today from CAP. She was also advised to call the Social Security Administration on why her SSI is lower than the standard of $943.00 a month for 2024. She also was counseled to call her pharmacy and check why her oxygen tanks are not being delivered as she is intitled to. She said she has tried to conserve her oxygen use to make her tanks last longer, but she then gets short of breath, and it is not good for her health!

Gas Card for Moving

I am currently working with a housing client that is moving and needs assistance with a gas card to help her move her items to storage while she looks for a place to live. The client is currently unemployed and looking for employment during this tough time. My client is moving everything on her own and could also use some prayers of positivity to keep moving forward. The client suffers from mental health problems and just had surgery on her leg which makes her public involvement very challenging. The client does not have a support network to help her with this move and could really use a little cheer with a gas card or two for her move. Any amount will help at this time.

Household items neded

I'm working with a mom with a young and active little boy. They live on the 2nd floor and her little boy likes to run around and play with cars which creates a lot of floor noise for the neighbors below them. This mom is looking for a thicker living room rug or two to help muffle some of those noises. She doesn't like having to tell her little boy to be quiet or stop playing. She is also in need of a good couch.

Senior couple needs car payment assistance

An elderly woman, who is 58 and not eligible for senior programs yet, called to ask for assistance in paying her delinquent water bill and car payment. Her husband, who is also elderly, has suffered, "severe medical challenges," this last year. He has not worked for over 2 years trying to recover from three separate medical issues that have cost them financially by added bills and the fact that he cannot work. This has caused stress for the wife as she is struggling to support him and keep her job in the public sphere working for the local government. She loves her job but it doesn't pay as much as her husband was earning. She also has mobility issues which makes it difficult to maintain their home since she is the only one that can do it. She is asking for help with her car payment to keep going to work, take husband to scheduled medical appointments and keep her household running. Although she is delinquent on her water bill, that is $450.00 as well, she said she wanted to focus on her car payment and she would figure that out herself. (If anyone wanted to help this this, that would be appreciated:) The CAP Agency's Energy Assistance Program (EAP) does not help this year with water bills since this was just effective during the COVID-19 Pandemic declaration. The husband feels he should be able to get back to work sometime this year but wants to make sure he doesn't suffer a setback by starting to early and is listening to his doctors for his two, distinct illnesses. Thank you to anyone reading this and thank you if you could contribute to this cause. She is applying for EAP and is seeking food resources to lessen that on her strained finances. If anyone wants more details, let me know. She wanted to protect her identify so isn't comfortable disclosing the exact medical diagnosis, but both can be fatal so she is lucky that he is recovering. Thank you.

Payment

This client was working at a gas station and paying for a room a the Spring Valley Inn in Savage. She started experiencing abdominal pain and had to go to the emergency room at St Francis for care about 2 and a half weeks ago. From the ER she was transferred to the United Hospital for a few days for a further testing. It was determined that her condition will require a procedure that will require her to stay in the hospital for several days and after care that will require her to purchase supplies. She was not eligible for disability through her job because she missed the enrollment period when she got hired and only accrued a few sick days which did not cover the time she had to take off from work. She still has all of her belongings at the hotel along with a cat that a friend has been caring for. I will require about 1 week of payment to get her caught up on payment at the the Inn. She plans on going back to work while continuing to heal to pay for the room but just needs to get caught up on payment.
