Mom in need or transportation

I am currently working with a mother who is parenting her son alone. She is married, but her husband is struggling with health issues and a recent tragedy in the family, rendering him unable to work. Mom herself has some mental and physical disabilities, and has been struggling to handle the many mental health needs of her teenage son. He has special appointments for his own physical and mental health issues that are all around the state, and mom does not have a working vehicle to get him to these appointments. Mom has been relying on her husband and her PCA as her transportation, but she can't rely on them forever! If anyone has any leads on affordable/no cost and safe vehicles, I would so appreciate being able to help this mom. She and her son have been through lots of trauma and she is doing everything she can to help them both. Thank you so much!

Used Gaming laptop and/or money for repair

A 7th grade student with challenges to being successful in school has a high interest in gaming and computers. His principal has an adult son who builds, enhances, and repairs computers. The student does not have resources available to buy a device and/or repair a device. Requesting a used gaming laptop, money to upgrade, repair one, and/or both. The student would work with principal's adult son to hopefully end with a working gaming laptop. The interest in a gaming laptop, not a desktop, is because student might travel out of country so wants something mobile.

Graduating Homeless program- Moving assistance

I have a client who is exiting our GRH program. He has graduated and is in the process of moving to his new residence. He has had some financial hardships due to car issues and repairs. Due to this unexpected expense, he is worried about being able to afford a U-Haul to move.  He has come a long way while on our program. Not only does he have a source of income now, but he has also really buckled down learning not only how to budget but become aware of what his living means are and staying within those means. He tries to plan ahead and has been trying to get a savings saved. Due to him recently earning this income, he has not had very many opportunities to put any money aside for savings.

Single Mother of 5 Needs Help with April Rent

A single mother of 5 whom I am assisting is currently on an unpaid leave of absence from work due to the complex medical conditions of her two youngest children, who are certified as disabled. She has been actively involved in their care, including frequent visits to Mayo Clinic for medication adjustments. To support her family, she is in the process of becoming their full-time CDCS (Consumer Directed Community Supports) caregiver. However, her main concern at the moment is covering the March rent, which amounts to $2,500. She is optimistic that by April, she will begin receiving income as a full-time caregiver, alleviating her financial worries. Anything help- thank you!

Adaptive Skiing Lessons

My client is a young girl who was survived a brain tumor as a toddler and is now cancer free but lives with complex medical and physical needs. Her family tries to make sure that she is not excluded from opportunities for activities in the community due to her limitations or disabilities. My client does not want to sit on the sidelines, she wants to be like her siblings and classmates, and not let her disability define her. With the communities’ help, she was able to participate in adaptive skiing for the past two winters and loved it! She has the opportunity to participate again this winter in adapted skiing sessions in March 2024 through Padraigʼs Place (a non-profit organization) at Buck Hill in Burnsville MN. My client is very excited for this opportunity!! She and her family have seen firsthand the benefits of adapted sports when she participated in adapted softball, dance, and skiing in the past. The benefits include increased self-esteem, independence, sense of inclusion with an easier integration into the community, and also new found friendships. Physical activity through Adaptive sports also provides benefits to her health including improved strength and increased fine and gross motor skills. My client and her family would appreciate support with the participation cost for the Adaptive Skiing.
