The family recently secured housing following the city purchasing the land of the previous apartment resulting in the need to move. Mom is working full-time, but often needs to take time for appointments and school challenges to support her child. Within the last week mom has been having some car challenges and is in need of a new water pump. She has called 10+ auto shops to get the best rate for the work. Mom has found a shop that is able to complete the work for $1000. Mom is struggling to come up with payment to fix her car, with worries about falling behind on rent. She has looked into the option of using public transportation, but there is not a bus line near that is open during her work hours (in the AM). In November 2025, she was displaced from her home as the residence is no longer habitable due to damage from previous floods and no heat. She has been residing in a hotel and working on an alternate housing plan. She can move to an apartment in Belle Plaine, however she has a past due fee that has now been sent to collections. The fee has to due with trees falling on her power line a few years ago and she was unable to call to contact the communications agency about the issue; meanwhile kept getting charged for the phone service.
