The Youth in our shelter program are in need of haircuts! We have about three youth who are looking to get their hair cut. We are looking at getting a gift card or gift cards so their Case Manager can take them to get a haircut at Sports Clips.  Most of our youth haven’t been able to get their hair cut due to the limited appointments available for haircuts due to Covid.

Gas card.  I have a 14 year old male in placement in Grand Rapids, MN. Family members are wanting to visit in person but finances are tight, so they don’t have any extra to spend on fuel to get up to see him. They’ve been able to do phone calls and can access video chats, but it’s just not the same as seeing each other in person. Any help towards this need is very much appreciated!

This mother is in need of a vehicle that can transport herself, her 3 children and 4 step children. In March she will be having her 4th child which means she will need a vehicle that can seat 9.  A fund has been started at Hope Lutheran Church to help purchase a good used vehicle for the family.  Any donations would be appreciated!  In addition mom is looking for a job.   She has excellent telephone skills.  In seeking a solution to a heating/cooling issue it was found that the head gasket needs to be replaced which greatly exceeds the value of her current car, especially with the other mechanical issues the car has. While seeking another vehicle the mother can, with extreme caution, drive her unrepairable car.  Mom is unemployed and currently looking for a job.

A parent that just started working (lost job due to COVID19) had her car stop working.  It will not start, this is her only means of transportation and she needs it to get to work.  She has not taken it to the shop because of the cost of having it towed and repaired as this is her 1st week at her new job.

Gift cards for Veterans Court.  This program helps veterans avoid jail and prison sentences on the condition that they work on the root causes of their criminal behavior, which are often issues with addiction and mental health. Experts involved in this program will be giving firsthand accounts about how the program works. A part of this program is giving veteran’s rewards of taking the necessary steps to get their lives back on track.  One way of doing this is by giving out gift cards for gas, food, and Uber rides to their appointments.  We are inviting you to join FISH in donating $20.00 gift cards or donating directly to the program and together we will truly help our Veterans live healthy, transformed lives.

I am working with several families that, like most families in this community, are struggling due to COVID-19 financially and mentally. Now with school moving back to distance learning, we are seeing these families struggle even more. There are four families on my caseload who are parenting children with autism or other special needs that feel like every day is a fight or struggle to get their kids engaged or able to work on their schoolwork. I heard recently that many schools have “wiggle seats” for kids to use while in the classroom, and these seats help kids with ASD or ADHD or other needs to concentrate on their work. Obviously the schools are not able to send these seats home, so I’d like to order four of these seats for the families to have and use during this time.

I am working with a teen who has significant mental health and chemical dependency struggles. Due to Covid-19 she is no longer receiving her in-person supports that she so desperately needs. This teen is not motivated to participate in virtual meetings for school, therapeutic supports and CD supports as she knows that she does better when she is able to connect with people in person.   Like so many children and youth, this particular child is struggling with the changes in supports due to Covid-19.  This youth needs motivation!  I would like to create a reward system for her so that when she attends therapy or a group, etc… she can receive a tangible item to use to continue with healthy coping skills.  This youth likes art, her therapy rabbit, baths, and fast food!  Any  small monetary gift cards to Michaels, chipotle, McDonalds, Caribou Coffee, bath bombs or other creative ( small) items would be a wonderful way to say good job and keep up the hard work!

Client lost her part time retail job hours due to COVID.   Return to her full time job has been greatly prolonged given COVID hitting schools/sports last year, and again this year, business at Lifetouch has been slowed.  Clt also had to isolate for 2 weeks shortly after returning to her full time job this past October due to COVID exposure.  Client did a great job picking up odd jobs, like cleaning to supplement her lost wages all these months.  Client is now working full time again, and has been paying what she can towards  her rent each month.  She has just been unable to pay it in full on and off  since March and has $1200 that has accumulated over time.  Client pays $1200 per month in rent, and receives no financial assistance for her monthly rent.

A young mother really enjoys art. It is not only a coping skill but something she is super proud of as well. Her drawing and painting of her younger siblings are beautiful! She also knows how to sew and would like to work on making her own clothes and designing them. It is fun to see her light up when taking about these hobbies she does for herself.   We are asking for a sewing machine that anyone is hoping to get rid of and a Joann’s or Michael’s gift card to get sewing supplies, new pencils, paper and paint.

Single woman was fostering 3 children so she got herself into a 3 bedroom townhome to support them awhile back. The 3 children did end up going back into the care of the mother so she no longer needs this size home but is bound by her lease agreement. Unfortunately she lost her job due to COVID and has been  trying to make ends meet with odd jobs such as InstaCart, DoorDash, etc. She has fallen behind on rent and is hopeful that she will be able to keep up on it after getting the past due paid. She is only one month behind at $1,500. Any donations are greatly appreciated. She provided a great service by being a foster parent, it would be a terrible thing for her to end up in debt or with an eviction due to providing this service.

I am working with a mom, that is trying to make better choices in her life and has struggled to maintain an active phone. I am looking for assistance in paying her phone bill for two months as this would  allow the mom to maintain her appointments, and better access services. $100 would allow mom to have her phone turned on for two months, while she works to get back on track.
