Treadmill. This resilient family with quite limited financial resources is determined to stay physically active during the winter. Dad is on disability, and both mom and dad work day-to-day to manage their autistic child while supporting very active teens. When asked what they wanted for Christmas, the kids agreed that a treadmill would be terrific. Dad just quit smoking and has been putting on weight and he wants this too! Mom wants one as well and also wants all of them to burn off excess energy! (And wouldn’t it be nice to have arguments about whose turn it is to use the treadmill rather than controlling the remote?) The family can absolutely not afford a family health club membership. A new, quality treadmill is very expensive, but there may be a used one out there somewhere that is under-utilized and gathering dust. So this is a golden opportunity to break free from feeling guilty about not using that expensive investment “just sitting there” and know that it will be getting a ton of use in a new home. The family would need help with transporting the item and any required disassembly or assembly.

A fan (preferably one that rotates) to circulate some of the air in his small apartment. My client lives on very limited resources. He does what he can to make ends meet but does not have the money to buy things like this for himself. We continue to work on how he can better budget his money or find additional resources when a need comes up.

I am working with a new family foster home that recently took in a 16 year old family friend. Due to the placement being newer and the family adapting to the new dynamics of the home, it has caused financial difficulty, the family was not able to be referred to a holiday program. If the family would be able to get a gift card for each child to get some clothes or personal items, it would provide the family a chance to celebrate Christmas.
There is a 16 and a 9 year old both females in the home. The Foster mom works full-time and is a single parent. Gift cards or anything that could help this family would make their holiday special.

The Water Heater has not been working for several months now. Both parents have some medical issues and they also have three children with disabilities living in the home. This has created some severe financial constraints for them. They have been having to heat up water on the stove to take baths, or not shower for long periods of time. This is creating ongoing behavioral issues due to the unstructured routines among the children in the home diagnosed with Autism. They are also worrying about the pipes freezing now that it is getting colder outside. They have been told it needs to be replaced and it will cost about $1100

I am working with a single mom and her children/grandchildren. Mom is in desperate need for help with their December rent or she and her children and grandchildren will likely be evicted. The family shares one car and it has not been reliable so it has been difficult for the three family members who do work (the others are all in school or are younger) to get the youngest children to child care and then to work. They have been working to get the car repaired; however, they are in need of $1750 for December rent and any money to put towards public transportation. If there is money for transportation I could then order them a transportation card. Any help towards rent would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration in this need.

I met with one of my families last night and the 14 year old boy pulled me aside and was worried they would not be having a Christmas this year because they could not afford it. Due to it being so close to the Holidays other holiday programs are not taking new referrals. I am hoping to get one gift for each child so they have something to open. The children’s ages are 15, 14, 13, 8, and 6 and they are all boys. Since the older three children are teenagers I was hoping to give them each a gift card somewhere so they could pick something out. For the younger two boys I was hoping to get them a toy or two to play with. Any help is appreciated!

I am working with a grandmother that is raising her 15-month-old granddaughter. This grandma was not expecting to be raising this child, and this has been difficult on her financially. It should be noted that this is not a foster care placement, but simply a family arrangement at this point, so Grandma is unable to receive financial assistance to help with these new expenses. Grandma is working full time while trying to make her home safer and cleaner for a child, especially now that child is walking! We have found child locks, gates, etc. but she is in need of shelving units to organize. We have measured and found that two of these cabinets would be perfect: https://www.target.com/p/closetmaid-pantry-cabinet-white/-/A-12193628

Our Elementary school community (Pre-K- 5th grade) has received generous donations of hats, snowpants, and gloves this season. While our families are so grateful for this, one piece of snowgear sometimes overlooked for donation and most needed are sturdy winter snow boots for students! When students don’t have snowboots they are unable to leave the “blacktop” at recess for risk of their shoes getting soaked with snow and creating an uncomfortable and cold rest of their day!

I am working with a married couple who went to treatment for the last sixty days. They have worked hard on obtaining and starting a new sober lifestyle. They have worked all their life and hope to get back to working to pay their bills. They are behind on some bills and have worked out a plan to get caught up. While at treatment, both parents were peer leaders and did speaking events. They hope to continue to encourage others. For the first time they are needing a little extra help to get back on their feet. They are behind on their phone bill and garbage bill. Their goal right now is to get established in family therapy, therapy and outpatient treatment.

Queen size bed. Searching for a new queen bed for my 65 year old client who lives independently in her apartment. She is a strong, inspirational woman with a great attitude and amazing outlook on life. She suffered a health crisis earlier this year where she was hospitalized for 3 months. She suffered a massive heart attack, was in a coma and ended up having her left leg amputated. She has been told by many healthcare professionals that she is lucky to be here today. Beverly believes she is still here for a reason and is searching to find, “her reason.” Please consider donating funds to support Beverly in purchasing a new queen bed. She donated her bed after loosing her leg so she would have room for a hospital bed. She no longer is in need of the hospital bed and would enjoy having a comfortable bed again.

A local disabled veteran has an emergency with her dog. She states that, “Something is very seriously wrong with Sam, and I can’t seem to get him into a veterinarian. I financially matter fact was turned away from an animal hospital yesterday because they were at capacity and that was at around 12:00.” The service dog (Sam) is urinating reddish brown and could be bleeding inside somewhere internally, or it could be an infection. This disabled vet lives on a very limited budget and can’t financially afford to have Sam seen. She is asking for $200 to help cover the cost of a visit to a local veterinarian. She also owns a beautiful macaw and is running out of food for it. Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

A single, Native American mother of a young son is in need of her car being fixed. This mom has addressed her own criminal charges and overcome homelessness. This mom has worked so hard to be where she is at today with her son. She has obtained a job and works so hard. She has found a scholarship to pay for $2500 for her car and needs the remaining $500 to get her car fixed. This car would make it so much easier to get to mental health services, school activities, cultural activities, and open up more job opportunities. Any help towards this request would be great for this family!

We serve clients that are moving from homelessness to stable housing but are coming into their new living quarters with next to nothing. Living off of limited to no income, these clients are unable to purchase some of the everyday necessities. Our biggest needs tend to be toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, brooms, and toilet brushes. We are also looking for donations of deodorant for both men and women. The need for these items was created due to our clients’ chronic homelessness and inability to provide for themselves. With stable housing and proper case management, it is our hope that our clients will rise above their circumstance and be able to provide these things for themselves in the future. We work with individuals and families.

Single mom has a cat for their family pet. They are wanting to get her spayed and are unable to afford the fee. We have found a place with MNSNAP that offers low cost services to clients with low income. The cost of the procedure is $60 for a cat to be spayed. Checks can be made out directly to the clinic once surgery has been scheduled. Mom has been unable to work due to her mental health. She is working on securing part time employment to better provide for her and her children in the future.
