Grant Armour, Recreation Program Specialist at Three Rivers Parks, led off by sharing the many winter activities available at the various Three Rivers Parks.  They have a great website which details what is available at each park as well as equipment rental, www.threeriversparks.org.  These activities are all explained in detail on the attached PowerPoint.

There is no admission to get into any of the parks.  However, some activities have a fee and there are lessons offered for some activities.  If fees are a barrier there is a Recreation Pass Plus available for those enrolled in some assistance programs which are listed in the PowerPoint.

Grant was asked what activities are most popular.  Cross country skiing is the most popular sport in the winter and public and private lesson are available.  The paddle programs are most popular in the summer.  There is no ice skating in the parks because they are focused on natural resources.  They don’t have the fat bikes to rent but they are available at other shops and sources.

Paula LaFrenierre, Adult Services Coordinator, Scott and Sarah Ethier, Collection Development Manager, Scott County Library, shared information on great winter reads, both fiction and nonfiction.  Information on their selections is on the attached PowerPoint.

There area three book clubs active in Scott County; two in Savage and one in Prior Lake.  They meet once a month in the libraries.  Information is in the calendar on the library website www.scottlib.org.  There Is also a ReadMobile that serves kids to enhance and build upon library skills.  The ReadMobile travels to various neighborhoods and events in the county.  Library to You allows people to pick up books for someone else.  There is currently a Winter Reads program now until the end of February which challenges people to read ten books during that time.  There are two drawings for prizes.
