I am working with a young woman who is pregnant and is struggling with her mental health and chemical dependency. She was adopted through foster care as a teenager and has been through a lot of trauma. She is entering treatment this week, and she’s feeling motivated and excited to be moving forward, and to have a fresh start. She has identified journaling as a helpful coping skill, so I wanted to get her a new journal and pens. I believe this will be an important tool as she is processing her trauma and what she is learning through this journey.

I am working with a single mother of a 6 month old daughter, who has been unable to work due COVID-19. She has been getting some gently used clothing from her friend, but is in need of some more summer clothing sizes 6-12 months for her daughter including onesies and dresses. Any donated clothing or gift cards to purchase clothing would be helpful.

I am working with a family that is struggling to stay in their home.  The father was recently arrested and he is not able to be in the home with his children, therefore is no longer financially supporting the family.  The children’s grandmother stepped in to care for the children, but she has very limited income and is not able to pay the rent.  CP and the family are working hard to keep the children in their own home with their grandmother.   We are requesting help with rent for the month of June.  The rent is $1200.  It is anticipated that the father will be able to return to the home with services in place within 1-2 months, and he will be able to resume financial responsibility of his family at that time.

I am working with a single mom and her two children.  Mom needs of help paying rent for June 2020.  She recently had surgery which is limiting her ability to go back to work until the end of May.  She is a health care worker, however, does not have benefits that allow her to be paid while she is out of work.  Since she is a single parent finances are already tight for her and now being out of work leaves her with no money to pay rent for June.  Any help towards this need would be greatly appreciated.  Once she goes back to work her financial situation should improve and she should be able to pay rent ongoing.  Thank you for your consideration of this request, it is greatly appreciated.

I am the physical therapist of a 10-year-old boy who has a mobility impairment and is recovering from a recent surgery.  He is in need of supportive bars for the toilet in his home.  Using these bars at school, he is able to access the bathroom with very little assistance.  Unfortunately, at home his walker does not fit into his bathroom, so he is needing to be carried into the bathroom.  His father as attempted to acquire the bars on their own, but his efforts have been complicated by the pandemic and because he is Spanish speaking, he has had difficulty finding and purchasing them online.  This is an incredibly deserving family.  The student and his father are both so thankful for any help they receive and they always follow my recommendations.  I’m sure that these bars would be used multiple times per day!

Mom of two is getting back to work after being off for over a year due to severe injuries she sustained in a car accident.  She was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a car that ran a stop sign.  After months of physical therapy, she has found a job and is starting to rebuild her life.  Her children are in child care at two different locations (based on their needs, not by choice) and she has to drive from New Prague to Shakopee and Waconia, and back again.  She spends up to three hours a day just driving back and forth so she can be employed and get her kids where they need to be.  She is in need of some gas cards and grocery cards to ensure she can remain employed and take care of her kids, while easing the burden of the financial costs of increased food and fuel needs.  She is seeking additional community resources, which will help for the future, but is looking for some additional support right now as she adjusts to the new schedule.

I am working with a young mother and her 9 month old son.  She is also pregnant and due in August.  She is taking a huge step and entering residential treatment with her 9 month old on Wednesday June 3rd.  I am hoping to get her a gift card to purchase some things before she goes to treatment to help her make it feel more like home (her fave lotions, body wash, clothes, towels, etc).

A single mother with 4 elementary age kids is looking for something to keep the kids entertained this summer. She stays at home with the kids and relies on child support, so there is not much for extra funds. She was looking at a dome play center or blow-up pool as a couple items that would keep the kids busy at home this summer. See details below. The play center is preferred, but costly. Mom is open to used items or funds to help purchase new items.

I am working with a teenage boy that is trying to get caught up with Algebra I and 8th grade language arts to prepare for school this fall. He is very far behind in these subjects, but he wants to understand this content and be successful. The purpose of this posting is twofold: I am looking for a volunteer virtual tutor and am also looking for someone to buy a few workbooks for him to use this summer. I am including the links to the workbooks below, and the books can be sent directly to the government center through Amazon to limit face-to-face contact. Please email me prior to ordering to ensure that the need has not already been filled!

My client needs help paying her and her son’s cell phone bill for this month. It is $65 (plus tax). This would be a one time thing as the mom is waiting to hear back about a job. The son recently moved back in with his mom. Having this bill paid would allow them to make appointments and maintain their schedules as well as keeping in contact with their network of support.

The family is in need of a dumpster to clean out their basement that had a sewage line break a few weeks ago. A significant amount of clothing/some bedding and a majority of toys were soaked in sewage and are not salvageable. The items are molding over which is creating a health hazard and it is an immediate concern to remove as soon as possible. The dumpster would be 8 yards which cost $299.50 through the local sanitation company, Lakers New Prague Sanitary. The family could have the dumpster for up to two weeks.  Neither parent is working and they are struggling with finances currently and are unable to afford the extra costs of removing all the items. The father has pre-existing health conditions and there are 4 children in the home. The family has nowhere else to go and is living in the conditions. If the parents can remove the molded items in the home then they can clean up the floors and have the mold and sewage cleaned away, the home will be free of mold.

Cleaning supplies – spray with bleach, paper towels, disposable gloves.  I am working with a family of three and mom has been working hard to clean the inside and outside of her home.  The home has many, many things inside of it and mom while mom is trying to dispose of or re-home items they no longer need she is also trying to work on deep cleaning.  She has some cleaning products, but is in need of more.  Finances are very tight right now due to COVID-19 and mom’s hours at work have been reduced.

I am working with a teenager that will be entering high school this fall. Teen is very behind on school and will be completing summer school and tutoring in the next few months to catch up. He reports that he often misses school because he feels like he is so far behind that “it is overwhelming to even try.” I have found some tutoring options through the school and library system, but I am looking to collect some small gift cards ($5-10) to use as weekly rewards as he is completing the tutoring sessions.

I am working with a single father of four children.  These children have been in foster care since the end of February and the children are slowly starting to transition back to their dad’s care.  Three of the children are in therapy right now and due to COVID-19, therapy sessions are happening only via video conference.  The father has a working computer but does not have the technology (webcam) to facilitate telehealth appointments.  He has searched stores in his area without success.

We are looking to see if there is anyone who has a webcam they are not using that could be donated to this family so the children can continue in their therapy while they make the transition to dad’s home.

A planner and a wall planner for a young mom who will be discharged form inpatient treatment. There are a lot of services to be set up prior to her discharge so having a place to organize them would be very helpful. Due to covid-19, we are hoping a potential donator would be willing to send them to her at treatment and she enjoys getting mail. The mother will be moving to a homeless shelter with her children following and will also have some potential housing appointments, along with chemical health and mental health appointments.

I have a client who is a single mother with two young children.  My client is currently partway done with getting her online degree and would like for herself and her daughter to participate in telehealth therapy sessions (due to COVID-19), however does not have a computer or tablet to be able do so.  My client is currently unemployed and actively participating in job search on a daily basis, but therefore has very little income to purchase a computer.

I am working with a mother who is looking to get her child more socialized with children his age. This child struggles with his mental health and has a hard time making friends due to being shy. COVID has made it even more difficult for him and he feels very isolated. There is a soccer camp in a neighboring town the mother would like to enroll him in. The fee for the camp is $50.

I am working with a family in Shakopee that is trying to come up with fun activities to do together during visits. Children are living with a relative, and Mom is taking care of her own mental health concerns and visits with the children regularly. Relatives are worried about doing things in the community due to COVID-19 and are hoping to get things like sidewalk chalk, art supplies, and a blow-up swimming pool for these visits with mom. I am requesting an $80 Walmart giftcard to buy a swimming pool as well as some other kids activities for the family to do together.

This mother and her thirteen year old son enjoy getting outside, particularly biking on trails. I am requesting two mountain bikes for them. This would be meaningful for them to be able to get outside, get exercise, and spend quality time together.

These would need to be delivered to the home.  They also need fabric masks.

A bike for a 14yr old boy is needed as soon as possible.  He has been dealing with living in very difficult circumstances with his mother that is struggling with addiction.  Unfortunately, she sold his bike for drug money.   He has now moved in with his aunt and uncle and trying to have a new start.  A great bike would help him feel like a normal 14yr.
