77 yo uninsured female and her spouse got COVID and were hospitalized.  They have no insurance, and MAY qualify  for Emergency Medical Assistance, which is a lengthy process, and in the end they might not qualify for that.  Her spouse died unexpectedly today.  She and her family are grieving and in shock, and in order for her to be able to go home today safely as she wishes, she needs oxygen.  It is covered under the Cares Act except for $260 dollars.   A kind soul coworker at the hospital paid for this out of her own pocket.  I would like this coworker to get reimbursed for this act of kindness, because if I had more time and this was during the week, I would have asked for this money for the patient herself through this awesome network!!!  The patient and family will be facing financial hardship due to hospital bills and funeral expenses.  We wanted her to be able to go home today and be with her whole family, so sent her using the coworkers own funds through her credit card.

I have been working with a youth for almost a year and he has resided at our  Passageways Supportive Housing Apartments the entire time.  He came to us with a vehicle and we found that he spent about $15,000 on a lemon.  We had it looked at by three different garages and all stated that it would not be economically feasible to fix all of the issues it had.  We had it towed to a non-profit in Minneapolis that has volunteers work on cars and they stated it was also not feasible to fix it and to scrap it.  This youth lost his job due to COVID and now that he doesn’t have a vehicle, he is unable to search for a new one.  We are hoping that someone has a gently used vehicle they may be willing to donate.  This youth is a hard worker and has been through so much with his physical health and his emotional health since he was a very young child.  Working also helps keep him busy and keeps his mind off of all of his past and current struggles.

A single mom is in need of a car seat/stroller combo as it is difficult to get her newborn son in and out of the convertible car seat. It would also be nicer to be able to take him out of the car in the winter time in a carrier car seat to protect him from the cold and to have a stroller to push him around in when she goes to appointments She was homeless and unable to work during her pregnancy due to health conditions and is now living with family, but finances have continued to be very tight. She also cannot afford prenatal vitamins and would find it very helpful if someone could purchase or provide a gift card to buy them (the doctor recommends that she continue to use them while she breastfeeds).

Single mother of two just bought a home. She’s been getting hit with unexpected costs associated with homeownership and some household repairs. Mortgage company just notified her she has 4 days to make the final interest payment before a new lender is assigned. . Said she fell through the cracks of their notification system, hence the late notice. Unwilling to budge on the due date and has told her she will be reported as delinquent if payment is not made by the 1st. Mother budgets just enough for mortgage and bills to be due each month on the 1st and cannot come up the with $460 interest payment.

70 year old senior with severe pulmonary health problems, is babysitting grandkids so single mom can go to two full time jobs.  She is asking for help with a new wheel bearing which the mechanic estimates will cost $300.00.  It is a Chevy Equinox.  The single mom has  a truck that is non-functioning and it is unknown what is wrong with that vehicle.  If the grandma can get her vehicle fixed, she will be able to let the daughter use it to continue to work and earn money for the expensive rent she has.  She was forced out of a more affordable unit when the owner decided to sell it in the hot real estate market instead of it being used as a rental unit.  The two grandsons are 12 and 14 and are being  bussed from Waconia to the Shakopee school district.  Mom does not receive child support and also has health impairments of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)  for the last 3 years with frequent injections which are only somewhat helpful.  She is working 80 hours a week to afford her rent and care for her two growing sons.  She has been unable to go to second  job since no Uber or taxis will come to Waconia to give her a ride in Bloomington where second evening job is.  Her supervisor even  offered to pay for the taxis or Uber, since they need her help.  Grandma would like to get her car fixed so she can offer it to her daughter to earn more money to get her truck evaluated to what is wrong with it.  If anyone can contribute this would be so life changing.  Grandma also needs the car to go to her frequent doctor appointments.

I am working with a single, pregnant mom who currently has 3 other children.  We are working to end her homelessness and are having a difficult time finding housing for her due to an eviction from 2017.  We found an apartment complex that is willing to accept her application if she has the eviction paid off.  Client owes just over $4,000.00, which has been negotiated down to $2,000.  She is working part-time and would like to work full-time, however she struggles to find a daycare that will take her oldest child due to his behavior disorders and currently has to rely on family so she her available hours to work are limited.  With her current part-time hours, she does not have additional funds to pay towards this debt.

I am working with a young, single mom of a one-year-old who is looking for financial support for child care.  She recently started a new job and has been able to utilize family members for child care.  However, that plan cannot work long-term.  The mom is needing some support while she figures out her budget with her new job, the needs for her one-year-old, and as she adjusts to being a single-parent home.

A sweet resident of the Prior Manor in Prior Lake is in need of new full size mattress.  She would prefer a mattress that is firm.  This senior resident has had the same mattress for over 10 years and is having difficulty sleeping at night due to the age and lack of support on her current  mattress.  She suffers from chronic back pain, and having a new mattress would give her the ability to rest peacefully and get the sleep she needs.  Because of her limited budget she can not afford to purchase a new mattress on her own.

Family membership for the Shakopee Community Center.  I am working with a 15 year old female through Children’s Mental Health. She has been struggling with being home a lot of the time and has physical limitations, which keep her from participating in most sports. Mom also recently lost her job. Older siblings are also struggling with being home much of the time. A membership for the Shakopee Community Center would allow all family members positive time outside the home. An annual family membership is $856.00, so any help towards this need is greatly appreciated!

I am working with two homeless individuals and they are in need of a car repair.  They have been told that their alternator needs replacing and have been quoted at ARC (Automotive Repair Center) for $470 for the repair.  They have an appointment set up there but are in need of funds to have the repair happen. One of the individuals has many health struggles resulting in many doctor appointments.  With it getting cooler there is concern about not having a working vehicle to get to these appointments.  They have made other options work during these warmer months but worry about utilizing these in the cold especially with the ongoing health concerns.  It will also allow the individuals to look for housing easier and access other community resources with an ease they have not been able to without a vehicle.
