The family of a toddler in the community is seeking support to help cover the cost of Occupational Therapy using Hippotherapy for their child who is experiencing delays in their development. Hippotherapy is horse-based therapy, used to engage clients in unique ways to support functional gains. Children gain skills by caring for, riding on, and talking to the horses. This family has been very dedicated to supporting their child’s needs, participating in school and medically based therapies and providing them many excellent opportunities for development. They recently participated in a screening for Occupational Therapy using Hippotherapy and found their child to be wonderfully engaged and motivated to participate. Later that day, their child stood up from the floor by themselves for the first time, something they had been working on for months. Unfortunately, this child’s insurance does not cover hippotherapy. The family intends to pay cash for the 12 week session, which will cost about $2600. I’m working with a single parent household. Father is now permanently out of the picture and is not a financial resource for the family. This mother had to quit her job to tend to her 4 young children as the father used to provide care. She is working hard to re-establish a healthy home environment for her children. She would like to return to work as a nursing assistant. Her basic safety/life support/CPR certification expired. She is needing to renew this licensure to return to work but does not have the financial means due to not being able to work. This certification costs $105.
