Single mom of 4 plus abandoned 2 siblings needs CAR repair to keep job

A CAP Energy Assistance client contacted me a few weeks ago asking for help with car repair. Her story is truly remarkable. Not only is she caring for her 4 children, 2 of which have autism, she also is taking care of two siblings who their mother abandoned! She is only 25 years old and is able to run this household on a hospitality income and social security disability income for the two sons with autism. The children range in age from 15 to 2 years old. The youngest 5 are 7, 5, 5, 4 & 2. What a busy household! She has spent the last two weeks contacting various mechanics to get the best deal. The car is a 2008 Yukon XL Truck with an extended cab with 3 seats to accommodate all of these passengers! The first mechanic said it needed new piston rings and coil packs? She found another, more reasonable quote of $3,000.00 which is almost a third of the original estimate. The cost is split with $3,000. for labor and $3,000. for parts. She is working very hard and is in low-income housing, gets EBT (food stamps) utilizes the food shelf and EAP from CAP as previously mentioned. She will go back to work at her hotel job when she is able to get help with fixing her vehicle. Even though she already works very hard, she was also open to obtaining another part-time job to further increase her monthly wages by potentially becoming an independent Chore contractor which show a lot of initiative and willingness to improve her situation. Please donate any amount you can so she can go back to work.

What caused this need?

She is a responsible single mom who also was kind hearted to take in her two siblings when their mother abandoned them. She has searched and was found eligible for many programs to help her financially: low-income housing, food stamps, Energy Assistance, local food shelf, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for two sons with autism, and is able and willing to work at her hospitality job, which is holding it open for her when she is able to return since she is such a good worker. She needs to fix this vehicle since purchasing a new one would be more more expensive and impossible with payments and possible credit limitations. She has car seats that fit this vehicle and would be willing to work at another part-time job to secure more money for her household. With this second source of income, she would be able to save for future repairs. Thank you for any amount you can donate.
