rent help

Help with January rent that is going up 38% (to add insult to injury, his income has dropped by 50%) so he can get his Social Security Disability issues worked out and turned back on. He could use help for January's rent. Any amount of help would be greatly appreciated.

What caused this need?

Mr. Chamberlin (goes by David) recently turned 60 years old. He has been on disability since I can remember (over 20 years). He lives in a subsidized apartment and works part time at HyVee grocery store. Years ago, he worked with an employment service to help him find work. He was working through supported employment for many years and they had arranged for him to be on a special program for folks that needed extra support on the job. This special program also allowed him to focus on work and not the actual amount he was earning; he was allowed to earn over the normal Substantial Gainful Activity amount. Job coaches came and went, jobs changed, and Dave continued to work. Social Security lost track of this program he was on - they looked and saw that he had earned just a little too much and kicked him off of Social Security Disability. This reduced his monthly income by 50% or more. Coinciding with this, he rent is going up over $100/mo for beginning in January. He works very hard despite his rent causing him lots of trouble and a recent medical health problem that landed him in the hospital. He lost his only family member (his mother) last year and is feeling very defeated -not wanting to end up in the mental health unit. I can speak to the sincerity of this man. He is a hard working, grateful honest guy trying to do his best to maintian a positive attitude and hope for the future. He realizes that he is not homeless, he has a home and a job. It was my idea to reach out here on FISH. I would love to see him feel cared about - he honestly deserves that.
