New Mattress for Disabled Adult
Individual is in need of a new quality twin size mattress. It would also be helpful if the mattress came with a trial for use, such as a 30 or 60-night trial. The disabled adult is very sensitive to sensations due to a sensory processing disorder and the trial use will help ensure the mattress will work with their needs.$0.00 of $700.00

What caused this need?
Disabled adult suffers from chronic back pain from their current mattress. Current mattress was acquired years ago from a former resident who passed away. The current mattress sags in the middle and offers no support. The individual relies solely on government assistance and low-income county programs for financial support. Medicare offers long term rentals of a hospital bed. The individual does not have the financial means of adding this monthly expense to their already restricted & limited budget. The individual was first encountered the carrying several bags of groceries miles away from the only grocery store in their town. They were offered a ride & when their story was learned. The individual had no support or assistance from family members or friends to assist them with things like rides, navigating governmental or county programs, scheduling medical appointments, or help meeting their needs. Through support provided the individual now has financial support through HUD, Life Line, SNAP, Energy Assistance, and a Healthy Benefits card. Additionally, items needed to assist with daily living have been purchased to include a shopping cart to assist with carrying items or bringing laundry to the laundry room; new towels ; sheets & pillow for the current mattress; safety bars in the shower, tub and toilet; reusable dishes to replace paper plates; a pair of new shoes, new pants, winter boots and a winter coat; kitchen table with chairs; and replacement of a broken vacuum cleaner. The individual has also received assistance in scheduling needed medical appointments to include dental exam, eye exam, hearing tests, physical therapy, chiropractic and specialty care. A new pair of glasses has also been purchased. The individual has also received assistance in accessing a library card to check out movies and books. Rides to and from medical appointments and the grocery store has also been arranged. The individual has also received assistance with organization and cleanliness of their apartment. Additionally, an application has been submitted a county wavier to receive help with daily living assistance, needs, and rides to medical appointments and shopping. However, the waiting list for waivered services is long. In the meantime, the remaining most significant need is a new mattress.
