Looking for people passionate about wellness and falls prevention

Falls are Minnesota's biggest cause of emergency room visits and deaths of older adults. Most falls are preventable. Would you like to play an active role in falls prevention in your community? Faith Community Nurse Network is looking for individuals interested in becoming trained as a Stepping On Facilitator. These individuals would be required to: - Attend three days of training (Jan 12-14) in NE Minneapolis, meals provided. - Follow fidelity of the evidence-based program as training will lay out. - Lead two workshops in their first 12 months following the training. Faith Community Nurse Network and the Area Agency on Aging (Trellis) are trying to improve access to evidence-based falls prevention programming in Dakota, Scott, and Carver Counties. Help us, Help Your Community. Modest Leader Stipends available per workshop. About Stepping On: Stepping On is a seven-week class meets once a week for two hours. This class helps participants learn strategies to reduce falls and increase strength. For this class, exercises are introduced in week one and then practiced throughout the remaining six weeks. Participants use weights to improve strength and balance throughout the program. The program also includes a follow-up home visit and a three-month “booster session” to review achievements and sustain efforts. Participants learn: Simple and fun balance and strength exercises ; The role of vision in keeping your balance ; How medications and contribute to falls ; Ways to keep from falling when out in your community ; How to eliminate fall hazards from your home Stepping On® is an evidence-based program developed at the University of Sydney, Australia, and adapted for U.S. audiences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
