What caused this need?

I am working with a single mother of three children who was working two jobs but has since lost one of these jobs. She has been able to secure more hours at the job that she still currently holds but has fallen back on utilities because of the lost of income. She has two bills that are in danger of being disconnected with past due amounts totally $231.76.
