What caused this need?

I am working with a mom that has had a really hard year. She and her son (age 9 months) having been working super hard to be independent with very minimual support. She is trying to find ample employment that pays more than her childcare and provide from herself and her son on soley her social security income. If you can help that would be wonderful! Thanks!
